![]() ![]() The Fisherman is a story within a story within a story. It will bring Abe and Dan face to face with all that they have lost, and with the price they must pay to regain it. ![]() It’s a tale of dark pacts, of long-buried secrets, and of a mysterious figure known as Der Fisher: the Fisherman. ![]() Soon, though, the men find themselves drawn into a tale as deep and old as the Reservoir. When Abe and Dan, two widowers who have found solace in each other’s company and a shared passion for fishing, hear rumors of the Creek, and what might be found there, the remedy to both their losses, they dismiss it as just another fish story. Steep-banked, fast-moving, it offers the promise of fine fishing, and of something more, a possibility too fantastic to be true. In upstate New York, in the woods around Woodstock, Dutchman’s Creek flows out of the Ashokan Reservoir. The Fisherman by John Langan is such a book. That makes you think days after you’ve turned the last page, that takes you down a path to somewhere dark and dangerous and mysterious and amazing all at once. It’s a rare thing, a book that sticks with you. ![]() ![]() ![]() We've rooted for them and sometimes felt annoyed by them. See a note from author Ann Brashares, below. ![]() Forever in Blue, the fourth and final novel in the series, promises a dazzling finale-one "last glorious summer" for the four girls, and their fans. Ann Brashares has created a wonderful, heartfelt series for teens (and adults) around a pair of pants. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Generally, I prefer chapters in manga to avoid it feeling like one long scene. Since this manga doesn’t use chapters, it helped separate different parts of the story. I liked that the manga followed in the book’s footsteps and used snippets from the Simon Snow books and Cath’s fan fiction. The illustrator did a phenomenal job conveying all of Cath’s emotions. The illustrator specializes in black and white manga style and that is very evident. It has those cozy vibes that makes you want to read this while curled up with a blanket and a hot beverage. It feels like such a comfort read, probably because the book is set during the fall/winter. If I could use one word to describe this book it would be cozy. I am familiar with the story so I was able to read and understand this volume without having read volume 1. My Bondage and My Freedom by Frederick Douglass. This important history of the state of race relations and the politics of slavery leading up to the American Civil War has been selected by scholars as being culturally important and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it. Written during his celebrated career as a newspaper editor and speaker, My Bondage and My Freedom reveals that the author of the Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, written in 1845, has grown more mature, forceful, analytical, and complex, with a deepened commitment to the fight for equal rights and liberties. It was written after 10 years of reflection following his legal emancipation in 1846 and his break with his mentor, William Lloyd Garrison, that catapulted Douglass into the international spotlight as the foremost spokesman for American blacks, both freed and slave. First published in 1855-at the height of Douglass' involvement in the abolitionist movement-his narrative describes the steps that had led him to the forefront of the struggle for racial justice. ![]() AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF FOREMOST SPOKESMAN FOR AMERICAN BLACKS This is ex-slave Frederick Douglass' second autobiography. ![]() ![]() In the Church, God is "calling together" his people from all the ends of the earth. 140 By calling itself "Church," the first community of Christian believers recognized itself as heir to that assembly. 139 Ekklesia is used frequently in the Greek Old Testament for the assembly of the Chosen People before God, above all for their assembly on Mount Sinai where Israel received the Law and was established by God as his holy people.
